Well this is a weird one. It’s my son’s 18th birthday tomorrow, a day I’ve always dreamed about. But all I can think about is the tsunami victims. It’s fucking post-nuclear down there. I’m drawn to the news channels even though it just brings me down. We’re not being told the half of it – blogs from the region prove that. Meanwhile, for reasons I’ll explain later, I so happen to be flat broke, and I don’t get paid until tomorrow. So I can’t donate anything to the relief effort, I can’t get my son a birthday present, I can’t even drive to the nearest city. Better get back to my work.
